Helping someone find the beauty in Islam through a Muslim’s character and actions is more commendable and righteous than causing someone to feel embarrassed or offended.

Imagine these three scenarios.

The first: A young man sees a Muslim woman sitting behind a table that reads, ‘Free Qur’ans and Info on Islam’, on his campus. The young man has been wanting to learn more about Islam and thinks this as the perfect opportunity.

In his desire to show his respect and acceptance of the Muslim woman behind the table, he enthusiastically approaches the Muslim woman and introduces himself, sticking out his hand in introduction. She, having apprehended this moment, responds to his innocent gesture matter-of-factly. ’I don’t shake men’s hands’, she states and leaves his hand hanging. He, confused and embarrassed, recoils his hand and begins to apologize if he had offended her while she tries to begin explaining something about modesty and gender. He leaves the table possibly more interested, but also, possibly turned off.

The second: The same young man is approaching that same Muslim woman behind the da`wah (outreach) table. She sees him coming and prepares herself. As he approaches and sticks out her hand, she sticks hers out and passes something to him in their exchange. Instead of her hand, he feels something big, cold and hard. He looks at it and realizes… It’s a wide bar of chocolate! She smiles at his surprise and confusion and explains: ‘We emphasize professional relationships through modest interactions between genders. So instead of exchanging handshakes, we exchange chocolate!’

Their hands touching were completely intercepted by an unexpected delicacy. The Muslim woman did not take something away from him while he was sincerely trying to greet her. Instead, he was given a gift and was then very receptive to hearing the reason for which he was gifted.

The third: The same young man is approaching and the Muslim woman realizes she ran out of chocolate. As he approaches and sticks out his hand in greeting, she sticks hers out in a peace sign. ‘Can I give you a peace sign?’ she asks. ’We emphasize professional relationships through modest interactions between genders, so we love giving peace signs in place of handshakes!’ He then mimics her peace sign, giving her a peace sign in return.

Some Muslims choose not to physically interact with adult members of the opposite sex who are not blood-related to them. When meeting someone for the first time, some Muslims may choose not to shake hands. When on campus, some Muslims dodge their bodies to avoid hugs. These moments often begin with trepidation on the part of the Muslim who chooses not to engage in physical touch and they end in confusion, embarrassment and sometimes offense on the part of the person who tried to extend respect and acceptance through culturally acceptable modes of physical expression.

However, it does not have to be awkward, confusing or embarrassing! For those who choose to follow the opinions barring physical touch with unrelated members of the opposite sex, it can be a moment of great da`wah! It just needs to be done with swag.

When it comes to handshakes, instead of pulling away and taking away the shared experience of a sign of acceptance in our culture, Muslims should think of creative ways to give something in exchange in order to honor and appreciate the kind gesture.

Hand situations might be easier to intercede for those who choose not to shake them, but what about hugs? At times, in their excitement, people throw themselves on others and there is little time to back away.

Depending on the circumstance, perhaps a way to creatively deal with this in the moment is by shouting: ‘Air hug!’ As one person moves forward for the embrace, the Muslim can back away with arms wide open, meeting their attempted hug with something similar- just without touching and plenty of space in between.

At this point, the Muslim can explain that Islam encourages professional relationships between genders and as modesty is emphasized, Muslims seek ways to maintain that modesty and respect through different venues. After a couple of times, other people get the point and are able to figure out ways by which they can respect and value the concept of non-touch professional relationships.

Particularly with the air hug, some wonder if it would give the wrong message. However, it seems the communicated message actually reads: I’m off limits. However, even with those limits, I’m working within my religion to try to make sure I appreciate and honor your gesture of acceptance.

For Muslims who choose not to touch, every situation is going to be different and must be met with wisdom as Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala (Exalted is He) tells us:

Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is (rightly) guided. (An-Nahl 16:125)

Helping someone find the beauty in Islam through a Muslim’s character and actions is more commendable and righteous than causing someone to feel embarrassed or offended because of an inadequate da`wah move.

If one chooses not to engage in physical touch, they should take it upon themselves to make sure they do it in a creative and engaging manner so that those curious about Islam will find themselves even more interested, not the other way around.

Each one of us has different experiences and insight.

Spell check in Word is unquestionably one of the most useful features of the program. So how can we correct words as we work on our document?

Step 1: Using Spellchecker While Writing

First we are going to look at the corrections Word offers as we work in our document. As you can see several words in this document have been underlined in red – this indicates that they have a spelling error.

Simply hover your mouse over the incorrect word and right click on it. In the menu that appears numerous correction possibilities will appear. Simply click on the one from the list that is correct.

Step 2: Autocorrect

Autocorrect is another spell check feature that corrects words automatically without asking the user whether they are correct. Almost always Word is 100% certain before making an auto correction, as you can see here when we type ‘modern’ misspelt with an ‘a’, it will automatically correct the error.

Step 3: Using the Main Spellchecker

Once you have finished your document it is a good idea to run a complete spell-check on it, even if you have been accepting the corrections as you go along. Click the ‘Review’ tab in the ribbon at the top and on the left click the ‘Spelling & Grammar’ icon.

A window will load and it will start to take you through your document right from the beginning, you are able to make changes based on what the spellchecker suggests. Run through the document making the corrections, until you are told ‘The spelling and gram’.

Here you are going to learn how to do this using Photoshop…

Step 1: Deleting a Text Layer

Before we get into more complicated ways of removing text in Photoshop, you should make sure you can’t remove it very easily. Check the layers panel and see if the text has a separate layer, here you can see that it does and if you simply click on this and press ‘Delete’ on the keyboard the text will disappear, problem solved. However, if the text and layer have been merged things become a bit more complicated.

Step 2: Merging the Text onto the Background

To make things harder lets press ‘Control’ and ‘Z’ to bring back that text and then merge it with the background image by clicking ‘Layers’ then ‘Flatten Image’. Now that text has become merged with the background and any part of the image that was behind the text has been lost. Fortunately, one of the coolest tools in Photoshop can be used to fix this situation; the ‘Content Aware’ tool.

Step 3: Selecting the Text

Select the ‘Magic Wand Tool’ from the toolbar on the left and click in the first letter of the text, it will become selected. Now, hold down the ‘Shift’ key and repeat this process for all of the other letters. Once you have done that click ‘Select’ in the main menu, navigate to ‘Modify’ and click expand. Enter 3 pixels and then click ‘OK’.

Step 4: Using Content Aware Fill

Now, press ‘Shift’ and ‘Backspace’ on the keyboard and in the ‘Fill’ window that appears select ‘Content-Aware’ from the drop down box and click ‘OK’. Photoshop will work some magic for a moment and then the text will disappear from the screen, only the selection will be left. Press ‘Control’ and ‘D’ and the selection will disappear and unless someone looks very closely it will be impossible to tell there was ever text there and that is how to remove text from image in Photoshop.

This life is a test for the hereafter.

Question:

How can you prove the existence of the hereafter, i.e. life after death?

Answer:

1. Belief in the Hereafter is not based on blind faith

Many people wonder as to how a person with a scientific and logical temperament can lend any credence to the belief of life after death. People assume that anyone believing in the hereafter is doing so on the basis of blind belief.

My belief in the hereafter is based on a logical argument.

2. Hereafter: A logical belief

There are more than a thousand verses in the Glorious Qur’an containing scientific facts (refer my book ’Qur’an and Modern Science-Compatible or Incompatible?’). Many facts mentioned in the Qur’an have been discovered in the last few centuries. But science has not advanced to a level where it can confirm every statement of the Qur’an.

Suppose 80% of all that is mentioned in the Qur’an has been proved 100% correct. About the remaining 20%, science makes no categorical statement, since it has not advanced to a level, where it can either prove or disprove these statements. With the limited knowledge that we have, we cannot say for sure whether even a single percentage or a single verse of the Qur’an from this 20% portion is wrong.

Thus when 80% of the Qur’an is 100% correct and the remaining 20% is not disproved, logic says that even the 20% portion is correct. The existence of the hereafter, which is mentioned in the Qur’an, falls in the 20% ambiguous portion which my logic says is correct.

3. Concept of peace and human values is useless without the concept of hereafter

Is robbing a good or an evil act? A normal balanced person would say it is evil. How would a person who does not believe in the hereafter convince a powerful and influential criminal that robbing is evil?

Suppose I am the most powerful and influential criminal in the world. At the same time I am an Intelligent and a logical person. I say that robbing is good because it helps me lead a luxurious life. Thus robbing is good for me.

If anybody can put forward a single logical argument as to why it is evil for me, I will stop immediately. People usually put forward the following arguments:

a. The person who is robbed will face difficulties

Some may say that the person who is robbed will face difficulties. I certainly agree that it is bad for the person who is robbed. But it is good for me. If I rob a thousand dollars, I can enjoy a good meal at a five-star restaurant.

b. Someone may rob you

Some people argue that someday I may be robbed. No one can rob me because I am a very powerful criminal and I have hundreds of bodyguards. I can rob anybody but nobody can rob me. Robbing may be a risky profession for a common man but not for an influential person like me.

c. The police may arrest you

Some may say, if you rob, you can be arrested by the police. The police cannot arrest me because I have the police on my payroll. I have the ministers on my payroll. I agree that if a common man robs, he will be arrested and it will be bad for him, but I am an extraordinarily influential and powerful criminal.

Give me one logical reason why it is bad for me and I will stop robbing.

d. It’s easy money

Some may say that it’s easy money and not hard-earned money. I agree completely that it is easy money, and that is one of the main reasons why I rob. If a person has the option of earning money the easy as well as the hard way, any logical person would choose the easy way.

e. It is against humanity

Some may say it is against humanity and that a person should care for other human beings. I counter argue by asking as to who wrote this law called ‘humanity’ and why should I follow it?

This law may be good for the emotional and sentimental people but I am a logical person and I see no benefit in caring for other human beings.

f. It is a selfish act

Some may say that robbing is being selfish. It is true that robbing is a selfish act; but then why should I not be selfish? It helps me enjoy life.

Hence all arguments that attempt to prove that robbing is an evil act are futile. In other words, there’s no logical reason for robbing being an evil act.

These arguments may satisfy a common man but not a powerful and influential criminal like me. None of the arguments can be defended on the strength of reason and logic. It is no surprise that there are so many criminals in this world.

Similarly raping, cheating etc. can be justified as good for a person like me and there is no logical argument that can convince me that these things are bad.

Now let us switch sides. How can a Muslim convince a powerful and influential criminal that robbing is an evil act?

Suppose you are the most powerful and influential criminal in the world, who has the police and the ministers on his payroll. You have army of thugs to protect you. I am a Muslim who will convince you that robbing, raping, cheating, etc. are evil acts.

Even if I put forth the same arguments to prove that robbing is evil the criminal will respond the same way as he did earlier.

I agree that the criminal is being logical and all his arguments are true only when he is the most powerful and influential criminal.

1. Every human being wants justice

Each and every human being desires justice. Even if he does not want justice for others he wants justice for himself. Some people are intoxicated by power and influence and inflict pain and suffering on others. The same people, however, would surely object if some injustice was done to them. The reason such people become insensitive to the suffering of others is that they worship power and influence. Power and influence, they feel, not only allows them to inflict injustice on others but also prevents others from doing likewise to them.

2. God is Most Powerful and Just

As a Muslim I would convince the criminal about the existence of Almighty God. This God is more powerful than you and at the same time is also just. The Glorious Qur’an says:

Allah is never unjust in the least degree… (An-Nisaa’ 4:40)

3. Why does God not punish me?

The criminal, being a logical and scientific person, agrees that God exists, after being presented with scientific facts from the Qur’an. He may argue as to why God, if He is Powerful and Just, does not punish him.

4. The people who do injustice should be punished

Every person who has suffered injustice, irrespective of financial or social status, almost certainly wants the perpetrator of injustice to be punished. Every normal person would like the robber or the rapist to be taught a lesson. Though a large number of criminals are punished, many even go scot-free. They lead a pleasant, luxurious life, and even enjoy a peaceful existence.

If injustice is done to a powerful and influential person, by someone more powerful and more influential than he, even such a person would want that person, perpetrators of injustice, to be punished.

5. This life is a test for the hereafter

This life is a test for the hereafter. The Qur’an says:

He Who created Death and life that He may try which of you is best in deed; and He is the Exalted in might, Oft-Forgiving. (Al-Mulk 67:2)

6. Final justice on Day of Judgment

The Glorious Qur’an says:

Every soul shall have a taste of death. And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the fire and admitted to the garden will have attained the object (of life): for the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception. (Aal`Imran 3:185)

Final justice will be meted out on the Day of Judgment. After a person dies, he will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment along with the rest of mankind. It is possible that a person receives part of his punishment in this world. The final reward and punishment will only be in the hereafter. God Almighty may not punish a robber or a rapist in this world but he will surely be held accountable on the Day of Judgment and will be punished in the hereafter, i.e. life after death.

7. What punishment can the human law give Hitler?

Hitler incinerated six million Jews during his reign of terror. Even if the police had arrested him, what punishment can the human law give Hitler for justice to prevail? The most they can do is to send Hitler to the gas chamber. But that will only be punishment for the killing of one Jew. What about the remaining five million, nine hundred and ninety nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine Jews?

8. Allah can burn Hitler more than six million times in hellfire

Allah say in the Qur’an:

Those who reject our signs, We shall soon cast into the Fire; as often as their skins are roasted through, we shall change them for fresh skins, that they may taste the penalty: for Allah is Exalted in power, Wise. (An-Nisaa’ 4:56)

If Allah wishes he can incinerate Hitler six million times in the hereafter in the hellfire.

9. No concept of human values or good and bad without concept of hereafter

It is clear that without convincing a person about the hereafter, i.e. life after death, the concept of human values and the good or evil nature of acts is impossible to prove to any person who is doing injustice especially when he is influential and powerful.

The Hereafter: A Logical or a Blind Belief?

Using your inbox as a to-do list mixes your to-do reminders with all the other noise that your inbox throws at you.

Let’s start with the uncomfortable truth about the way that we work.

As soon as more than one thing has our attention and we experience information overload, our instinctive reaction is that we want to feel busy to feel like we’re making progress. Because as a species we’re inherently lazy, we gravitate to the easiest way to achieve this illusion of progress.

We open our email inbox, check for what’s new, we scroll up and down, we check for what’s new, we scroll up and down, we fiddle around creating archive folders, we check for other new information (for example on our social media profiles or the news or our phone) and generally begin to develop an addiction to being connected. What we’re addicted to here is the illusion of productivity for a minimal payoff of thinking.

Getting your inbox to zero breaks out of this bad habit and forces Ninja-like decisiveness and discipline. This is needed for you to make the difficult decisions about emails as soon as you read them, reducing procrastination time, increasing clarity about your work and vastly reducing the stress that email overload causes.

Email changes from being a task that seems like an amorphous mass of work that will never be finished, into a quantifiable conveyor belt where every single email has a possible decision that can be made about it straight away. Sounds simple, doesn’t it?

Well, the good news is that is really is, and these 3 mindset changes are a great starting point!

Your Inbox Is Just a Place Where Emails Land

Your inbox is not your to-do list. I cannot emphasize this enough. Your inbox is not your to-do list. It is nothing more than a holding pen for where new inputs land. We often try to keep emails in our inbox because we don’t want to lose them or we want to come back to them. But the really meaningful work goes on outside the email inbox and using it as your primary to-do list reminder will mean either that things from elsewhere are missed or you end up having to email yourself. A lot.

In addition, using your inbox as a to-do list mixes your to-do reminders with all the other noise that your inbox throws at you, so it can be difficult to know what’s ‘to do’ versus ‘what’s happening’ versus what can be ignored.

We need to create new holding pens (@action, @read, @waiting and a simple archive system) for these very differently categorized items otherwise we’ll keep having to make the decisions about what’s actionable and what’s not over and over again.

Don’t Let Your Inbox Nag You All Day

Your inbox is full of potentially exciting information to get distracted with and this information is piling up all the time! ‘What if there’s something vital in there? Better quickly go and see what it is!’ Checking too often can become a deadly disease. Turn off every sound and graphic. That way, you can revisit the inbox when you’re ready to, not when the inbox is nagging you to return.

Don’t Check Your Emails, ‘Process’ Your Emails

This might sound really simple, but it’s one of those subtle changes that’s actually profound. Every time you open your inbox, your mindset is not to check what’s new, but to make the decisions and create the momentum needed to move those emails to where they need to get to.

You can only get it out of your inbox if every option you need has an obvious next step; otherwise your mind will do what it probably does now and say: ‘Err, not sure where that goes. I’ll come back to that one later’.

Regular Review

Making time to follow up, double check, print, clean up and generally do some housekeeping on your email system provides a regular chance to do some routine maintenance and a little bit of strategic-level review. After all, it’s important that we measure the effectiveness of any system; one of the key problems with how most people use Outlook or Gmail is that they don’t feel there’s any way that they can gain control, so they don’t think there’s anything to measure.

The great thing about Inbox Zero is that, once you reach it, it’s pretty easy to stay there as there’s no mountain left to climb, just today’s molehill.

Want to protect your documents from being edited without permission?

Microsoft Word for windows is a comprehensive word processing program that allows one to edit text in a number of ways. It also ensures privacy and protection for information you don’t wish to share.

You can password protect word documents to save them from being edited or formatted and thus, this prevents loss or breach of data. It therefore secures documents by assigning a password to them.

Follow the steps here and learn how to password-protect your documents in Microsoft Word 2010…

Step 1: Using General Options

In Microsoft word for windows, go to the “File” tab and click on the ‘Save as’ option to open the ‘Save as’ window. At the bottom of this window, you will see an option for ‘Tools’. Click on its drop down arrow and then select the option titled ‘General Options’. A dialogue box will now appear for the ‘General options’ and there are two fields that can be used to assign a password to the document. One of them is for the Password to open the file and the other is for the Password to allow modifications to the file. Since we want to protect the document from undergoing any changes or modification, we entered a password in the ‘Password to modify’ field. Now press the ‘Protect Document’ button to proceed further.

Step 2: Restricting Formatting and Editing

After you have clicked on the ‘Protect Document’ button, a ‘Restrict editing and formatting’ pane will open on the right hand side of the window. This consists of three options regarding restrictions. Jump to the second option which is titled ‘Editing restrictions’. Since you are protecting the document against any kind of editing, you can choose what kind of editing is allowed in the document. Here, first you must put a check on the ‘Allow only this type of editing in the document’ option and then choose an option from the drop down arrow. Let’s say you have selected the option titled ‘Track changes’. Now, whenever any changes will be made, they will be marked as tracked changes.

Step 3: Starting to Enforce Protection

Once you have made the changes to the Editing restriction settings, the next step is to apply the protection. Click on the button located at the bottom of the restriction pane titled ‘Yes, start enforcing Protection’. At this point, a small option box for the ‘Start enforcing Protection’ appears where you have to insert the password again. Re-enter the new password and click on the ‘OK’ button to password protect word documents. Once you have done so, your document is completely protected. Anyone who wants to edit the document will be required to enter a password in order to do so.

Step 4: Stopping Protection

To stop the protection for a particular document, you must simply click on the ‘Stop Protection’ button situated in the restriction panel at the extreme bottom. Click on this button and a small window will appear titled ‘Unprotect Document’ where you will have to enter the password again. Now click on the ‘OK’ button and the document will be unprotected.

How to Password-protect Documents in Microsoft Word

There are various searching options available on websites you can use many developed tools and features to filter and sort, and customize search results.

Here we are going to show you how to search in YouTube using the various search options and tools that are available on the website.

Step 1: The Basic Search Function

Go to YouTube and make sure that you are logged into your account. You will see the search bar at the top of the page and the simplest type of search you can do is just typing a search term in here and pressing ‘Return’. YouTube will build a list of results from your search on the next page.

Step 2: Using a Search Filter

Below the search bar on this new page you will see a drop down option called ‘Filters’. Click on this and you will be presented with many different options for filtering the results. In this example we will limit our search to videos that have been uploaded in the last month by clicking on the ‘This Month’ option. The drop down option will close and the videos below will now only be those from the last month.

Step 3: Applying Additional Filters

It is possible to search by multiple filters at once. Click on the ‘Filters’ option again and choose something else from the options, here we are choosing to also search only for videos that are less than 4 minutes in length.

Step 4: Searching Within a Channel

It is also possible to limit your search to just within a channel. Here we will navigate to a channel and when the page for that channel has loaded you will notice a ‘Search Channel’ option to the top right of the screen, enter your search term here and press ‘Return’. Results from just this channel relating to that search term will then appear below and that is how to search in YouTube.

Navigate to ‘Documents’, ‘Leawo’, ‘DVD Ripper’, ‘DVD Video’ and open the MP4 file in the folder. The video will start to upload to YouTube.

Step 4: Playing the Video

Once the upload has completed you can click the link on this page that will take you to the video and it will start to play and that is how to upload a DVD to YouTube.
