Killing Animals Is a Ruthless Act: Why Do Muslims Eat Their Meat?

By Editorial Staff

Killing animals is a ruthless act. Why then do Muslims consume non-vegetarian food? Why in the first place does Islam permit a Muslim to eat it?

Can a Muslim be a good Muslim by being a pure vegetarian? Is there something in Islam that says it’s compulsory for a Muslim to eat non-vegan food?

But why shouldn’t a Muslim do as it is permitted?

Allah says:

O you who believe! fulfill (all) obligations. Lawful unto you (for food) are all four-footed animals, with the exceptions named: But animals of the chase are forbidden while you are in the sacred precincts or in pilgrim garb: for Allah does command according to His will and plan. (Al-Ma’idah 5:1)

Allah also says:

And cattle He has created for you (men): from them ye derive warmth, and numerous benefits, and of their (meat) you eat. (An-Nahl 16:5)

And in cattle (too) you have an instructive example: from within their bodies We produce (milk) for you to drink; there are, in them, (besides), numerous (other) benefits for you; and of their (meat) you eat. (Al-Mu’minun 23:21)

What are the benefits of eating non-vegetarian foods? What are the scientific and logical reasons for having meat? What does science say about non-vegetarian food?

How do vegetarians defend their vegan diet?
